Welcome to VCVW-8

Virtual Carrier Wing Eight (VCVW-8)

Virtual Naval Air Operations is pleased to announce approval by Chief of VNAO ADM Keith "MadMax" Gorman of the official stand-up of Virtual Carrier Air Wing Eight (VCVW-8).  Microsoft Flight Simulator X with Acceleration Pack will be the basic simulator platform for all training and operations.  CVW-8 is an active U.S. Naval air wing based at NAS Oceana, Va. currently. The wing consists of eight flying squadrons deployed aboard the USS George H. W. Bush. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_Air_Wing_Eight

Initial operations are planned with VFA-31 flying the VRS F/A-18E Superbug.  The add-on package “TacPac” for this aircraft, introducing innovative "combat" capabilities for the F/A-18E in FSX, is scheduled for released in Spring, 2011.

Future squadrons and aircraft are envisioned to more fully flesh out the air wing: E2C Hawkeye, F/A-18C, HS-60, and the E/A-18G (when released), are all possible squadron evolutions.

The Wing will initially be manned by two former military aviators, Ron “Pop” Folse (CDR USN, Ret) and Greyson “Ghost” Bassett (LtCol USAF, Ret).  These pilots have enough seat time to qualify as official “Fat Butts,” so whatever non-standard regulations that evolve can be mostly attributed to attitude and altitude accordingly.  Wing structure is to be decided upon participation.

We will begin with "baby steps" so as to not frighten potential candidates with organizational or procedural overload. Those interested in becoming members should submit an application. A short evaluation flight in a stock FSX airframe is the next step to becoming a squadron member, as determined by the CAG. It is highly recommended that prospective candidates complete the Acceleration Pack F/A-18 Carrier Practice Mission in FSX, requiring five assisted traps and a green success check mark.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Have a great Navy day!
